First Update of the Year

Well this year if off to quite a start.

On the second work day of the year we lost the Primary Domain Controller at OTES and some issues with the Web based exchange popped up.

The link on the IT department page will work to get you to the web based portion of the exchange server.  If you are still having issues please give us a call.

The Power supply failed on the PDC and took out the drive array card as well.  Jef and I were in over the weekend doing some testing and ordering parts.  It is our top priority to have that server up and running just as fast as we can.

OK Back to work….

With Jef being gone most of this week, here is what has been going on in IT.

Installed the latest version of Reading Counts at OTES, Once teacher and student data is entered the client can be installed on the workstations.
I am developing instruction sheets so that teachers can do the easy installs on their own PC’s.

The web portion of the exchange server is stable, I sent out an all staff e-mail regarding this earlier this week.
If anyone is still having issues please let us know.

Fixed some type to learn issues in Special Ed at OTES May need a new switch in there eventually.

Week of November 5th

There was a big storm this weekend and the power was out for an extended period of time.  So things may not have been up at 100% first thing in the morning but

It looks like we have all but one or two issues taken care of.

The GT laptops have been done.

OTHS Mac Books should be rolling out this week.
Make sure you have signed up in the Teachers Room for a time slot to meet with Thom to get your new laptop.
The W2S server at OTHS will be replaced very soon. (Monday if everything goes as planned)

Last week we replaced the phone server at OTES because of a power issue.

We are finishing up the Outlook installs and memory upgrades at OTES.  We have just a few of the outer classrooms to do.

This week we will be working on getting the new Reading Counts up and running at OTES.

We are in the process of creating staff lists for the new e-mail.

Directions on how to find the lists are on the new How To page

Need to contact the Helpdesk?

You will notice that there are new addresses for the Helpdesk.  When sending an e-mail to the Help desk please select the helpdesk for your school and it will get to the correct person(s) for that school.  Remember to always send a help desk request for a technology issue even if you have spoken to us in out in the halls or wherever.  That way we have a record of the issue and in case we forget or are called away on an emergency.

When you send the helpdesk request be sure to include as much information as you can.  Such things as any error messages, symptoms, what troubleshooting steps you have done and anything else that you may think may help us diagnose the problem.

We are still working on getting a calendar for each school up on the web.

I am sure there is more but that is the top of the list at the moment…

This week in IT (or Today in IT)

This week in IT we are finishing up the new laptops for the Gifted and Talented Program, working on the exchange calendars for the web site, teacher blogs at OTES, Teacher MLTI Mac Books at OTHS and all the normal day to day issues that tend to pop up.

If any of you have dropped by our office since the move, you will have noticed that it is in quite a state.  Once things calm down to a dull roar we will be able to get it in order.

The 6th grade now has 54 Mac Mini’s to work on.  These are replacing all but one of the Linux Terminal labs that they have been using for the past couple of years.  The move to the Macs will help with the transition to the MLTI program in 7th and 8th grades.

Gotta run

What has been going on

Here is just a brief update on what the IT staff have been up to over the past couple of weeks.

NWEA testing has been set up and is now underway.

The new Exchange mail is up and running and we are in process of getting everyone set up with their new addresses and getting the appropriate software installed. Everyone should have access to the web based portion of the new mail, if not please let us know.

We are also working on the long priority lists provided to us by each school.

More updates to come…
