LMS Technology  Committee Meeting

May 9, 2007

2:15 p.m.

  1. NWEA  - Recommendation for next year to break tests up perhaps 1 per day or math one day and Language Usage, Reading the next.  Would need to do it over a ten day period in sixth. Grade if we use the new COW.  7th and 8th can do it at the leisure really just as long as they communicate with special education. The glitches with connecting to the server may be resolved  by  having  test taker on flash drives next year. Jef is looking into it
  2. End of year technology  wrap up – 6th grade changing to windows terminal. As a result of this we need a list of needs from each teacher as to what they need for software and hardware. Same goes for ALL teachers. Each team needs to generate that List and get it to John prior to the end of the school year.
  3. Printing Initiative - We will be keeping  printing program the way we have it. For next year. Color printer will be moved to Trish’s room.
  4. Laptop inspections6th grade expectations (Lee said she would do this for the Cow, but we need a volunteer for the Aleks lab. All laptops are inspected for  1) Charger issues 2 ) Any physical problems  to laptop and any functionality issues of laptop. Cart repair. All laptops will be  cleaned including  keyboards, screens and case.  Glass wipes will be provided  Also, any work and downloads must be deleted from the computers.  A sticky note will be applied to each unit.

Sixth grade  teachers are also responsible for cleaning Linnux boxes if needed.

Additional expectations  for seventh and eighth grade 1) case  2) duckhead  3) condition of outside of laptop.    4) Back up work on cd if desired and then have students  clear desktops and clean as stated student provides CD  Any billable issues (missing or damaged equipment) need to be sent to office using the form Richard provides.

The Student Tech team may be of some help with cleaning and inspecting of laptops if we decide to collect laptops on June 4. The Student Tech Team will not be available on June 1st as that is the date of their conference. John will bring this up at the next Prime Time

  1. High Tech Room Use   Why  didn’t people use it much?

Didn’t need to use  it.

Other classes in it

Not enough of each type of computer

Hot

Too far from classroom

Maybe people would use it more if we equipped it better – Please talk to your teams about this and get ready to talk about it at our next meeting.

  1. Fresh Cow  -  The technology committee was  rethinking the deployment of the new cow for sixth grade next year . Lee will talk to the sixth about pros and cons of keeping cows separate as opposed to mixing up  new cow and old cow.

  1. Technology In Service – The second in service day at the start of the school year next year will be dedicated to professional development in the area of technology Integration. We would like to offer a plethora of workshops that day and we would like our  staff to lead the workshops as much as possible. Tech Committee members need to  ask their teams what they would like to have offered on this day of in service.

  1. Camp Coyote will be using 56 laptops this summer.

  1. TEACHER LAPTOPS -  All teachers need to leave their laptop with the tech department this summer for reimaging and  tuning up. If someone has special needs they need to see Tim and/or Jef on this issue to make arrangements for other times for reimaging. REIMAGING IS NOT AN OPTION. Any laptop that is not reimaged this summer will be done in the fall at the start of school.
