In our pre-kindergarten program we focus on social skills along with reading
and math readiness activities. The school motto, Work Hard and Be Kind, is
a perfect segue to the philosophy of our classroom. While working (playing)
hard throughout the day, we practice being kind and polite to each other.
Students are encouraged to cooperate, share, take turns, follow directions,
and make good choices with both peers and adults.
Our days are filled with experiences in counting, singing, body movement, and
story telling. Bits of sign language and Spanish are included whenever possible.
Of course we find time for snack and recess each and every day.
Mrs. Emerson is the pre-kindergarten teacher. This is her fourth year
teaching pre-k. She taught kindergarten 17 years prior to this year.
Other experience includes four years teaching third grade, two years
teaching parenting classes to teen moms and supervising a nursery, and
one year teaching Home Economics in Sierra Leone, West Africa, as a Peace
Corps Volunteer. |
