Old Town High School
Library Policies
The Library is
open from 7:15 until 3:00 Monday – Thursday, and until 2:45 on Friday.
The atmosphere of the library is one of quiet
study.
Students may come to the library during study hall or from class with a
research pass. The library is a quiet place to use library resources for research, for book selection and for
general reading. Using the library
is a privilege that may be
revoked any time a student behaves irresponsibly.
Students who get research passes from teachers are expected to do that
research while in the library.
Students are expected to go directly from study hall to the
library and directly back to study hall from the library.
All students, with the exception of honor pass students, must have
a pass or have their name on a study hall list in order to enter the library,
and must leave with a pass as well.
The library may occasionally need to be closed to study hall
students when it has been reserved for class use.
Special permission may be given to students needing to do research during
that period.
No locker passes will be given. Students should bring all the materials that they need to the
library with them.
No bathroom or office passes will be given from the library
except in the case of emergency.
No book bags are allowed in the library.
Students should take out any material needed, and leave book bags neatly
outside the library door.
Library computer rules concerning usage and printing are
posted by each computer and must be strictly observed.
No food or drink is allowed in the library at any time.
Students will lose library privileges for disciplinary
reasons. Length of time of
suspension will depend on the nature of the offense.
The loan period for books is for three weeks with one
renewal allowed. A student may take
out up to four books at a time. The loan period for magazines and vertical file
materials is for one week, with one renewal.
Overdue fines are assessed at a rate of $.05 per day for each school day
the book is overdue. Students with
material that is greatly overdue may lose their borrowing privileges.
Students who deface or destroy materials within the library will face
severe disciplinary action. Students
will be charged for lost or damaged materials.
At the end of each ranking quarter, grades will be with held until all
books are returned and fines are paid.
