THE STUDENTS |

| The
student population at Old Town High School averages
between 650 and 700 students annually. This enrollment
reflects an almost 50/50 split between tuition and
non-tuition students. The majority of tuition students
come from School Union 90 (Alton, Bradley, Greenbush and
Milford) and Indian Island schools. Traditionally, these
students have easily integrated into both academic
programs and extracurricular activities. Moreover, many
of these students have reached high levels of achievement
in both the classroom and inter-scholastic competitions. There are some notable programs at Old Town High School: The music program is rated among the best in the State. During the past few years, several students have earned All State in jazz, concert band and choral competition. Competing in the PVC and Big East Conferences provides student athletes an opportunity to showcase their talents against outstanding competition. In all, there are 20 different interscholastic sports offered to our students. Old Town High School's swim program is the premier program in the state. The boys' team has won fourteen straight state championships and the women's program has six consecutive titles to their credit, both represent the longest consecutive win streaks in State history. An outstanding drama program allows students to take part in several different productions during the school year. Students have won individual honors and play productions have placed in State Drama Festivals. Old Town High School has a school newspaper "The Screamer." The production of this paper is part of newspaper class that may be taken for credit. The Renaissance program is designed to recognize students in all areas of educational achievement. THE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY
Old Town High School is centrally located on a 33 acre site in the community. The original two story brick facility was completed in 1952; an addition was built in 1967. An indoor swimming pool was added in 1968 and was further expanded and renovated in 1979-80. A recent addition was completed in 1989 after the community overwhelmingly passed a $1.28 million referendum. This addition houses a modern cafetorium, a new library and computer lab. Excellent athletic facilities are adjacent to the school. Primarily residential, Old Town is a stable, middle class, conservative community. Old Town is a neighboring community to the University of Maine. Because of this proximity, students have access to educational, cultural and recreational opportunities provided by the university.
